Stemnitsa to Dimitsana
Cobbled paths, monasteries and old bridges, through the Lousios gorge.
Read on ↓01 Stemnitsa to Dimitsana
Cobbles, monasteries and the gorge between two villages.
The walk starts in Stemnitsa, the village of the goldsmiths and of the First Peloponnesian Senate of 1821, where many old routes meet. It ends in Dimitsana.
Much of the way follows the old cobbled paths of the Peloponnese, through a gorge with waterfalls and riverbeds.

02 The route
A monastery on a rock.
From the village a dirt road follows the slope below the main road. Near the church of Agios Nikolaos a wooden walkway leads onto the first path, the old road to the Prodromos monastery, passing the Kamari spring.
The road then reaches Metamorphosis Sotiros, with its fountains and view of the gorge, and a cobbled path leads to the Prodromos monastery, built on its rock and open to visitors daily.
From there the way is cobbled for most of its length, crossing the river on a small concrete bridge and climbing to the Old Philosophou monastery and then the New Philosophou monastery. Past the Monopori bridge, the old path takes you into Dimitsana, towards the Water Power Museum.
